Kevin Algar
Kevin Algar is a poet from Suffolk. He is a qualified gardener who has researched local history including much about the history of the church in East Anglia. He also is an avid cyclist. He has also studied poetry ancient and modern which has given him inspiration from a wide range of poetic sources from the Psalms, Anglo-Saxon and ancient Norse poetry through to modern poets. Over the years he has developed an exhaustive knowledge of Suffolk geography and history.
In Sælig Suffolk, Kevin Algar utilises his knowledge of the landscape, flora, history, local culture and history to speak of things both sacred and mundane. With differing poetic styles the pilgrimage begins in Lowestoft and through the journey we discover Suffolk’s landscapes, its history and its saints finishing at Iken which has been a place of Christian pilgrimage since 654 AD.
Sælig Suffolk: A Poetic Pilgrimage Through the Heart of Suffolk

Take an inspiring journey through the beautiful county of Suffolk. Starting in the UK’s most easterly town of Lowestoft and ending at the thatch-roofed Church of Iken. The narratives of Suffolk, as experienced by gardener Kevin Algar, are characterized by poetry marked by repetition and rhythmic patterns. Wonder and amusement are central throughout. Topics may seem small or grand, but a wonder-filled, jovial gaze endures. The book recounts life with a steady sense of awe.
Sælig Suffolk is one you can open to any page, let chance guide your hand, and find a meaningful poem or verse to read and reflect upon. The joy and curiosity in each passage linger long after. Kevin is a gardener, but a writer with a knowledge of the history of the place he calls home and above all, a poet.
